Earlier this year, Buddy Guy released Skin Deep, featuring the title cut about racial equality. “Underneath, we’re all the same” says Buddy in the chorus, and just a few months after its release, a young Chicagoan was elected as our first black President. Coincidence? Maybe, but I think Buddy Guy tapped into a movement with the song. Howie Klein of Down with Tyranny was so moved, he created this touching video:

Our current emphasis track with radio is “Best Damn Fool.” Click to listen!

Congratulations to Buddy Guy on Skin Deep being nominated for Grammy® for Best Traditional Blues Album! Elvin Bishop, John Lee Hooker, BB King and Pinetop Perkins & Friends are the acts Buddy is competing with for what would be his 6th Grammy®. Buddy Guy was also recognized with the first “Great Entertainer of Illinois” Award earlier this year.

All Music listed Skin Deep in its top 10 Best Blues Albums of 2008.

And of course, Buddy Guy and his guitar play a role in the new film Cadillac Records, as part of Muddy Water’s band that helped create Rock and Roll. I look forward to seeing it one of these days (as well as The Punisher).

And finally, here’s a bit of the man himself, who will be on tour next year with B.B. King!
