One of the finalists in the Doritos contestThe Super Bowl broadcast has always been the finish line for a contest or two, with the big ad capping off a few weeks of advertising/run-up. Doritos’ competition for consumers to make their own ads, with the winner to be broadcast (and thereby announced) during the game.

What other companies are making a big build-up? I think it makes a lot of sense to surround a fat ad like a Super Bowl spot with a “greater narrative” and of course, more impressions.

The game is between Pittsburgh and St. Louis, a classic matchup but not the most populous cities, implying the ratings will be low. I think football fans will tune in and if it’s a good game the ratings will be typically good.

In times like this, it’s nice to have a good tv show and some chips to watch with.
