Listener Linda J. Barry created this logo for WORT's 30th birthday

WORT, Madison WI has long been one of the best run and most peculiar community radio stations.  As the playlist and logo at right attest, the station has a long history of being eclectic.  Being based in one of America’s quintessential “college towns” (Rodney Dangerfield went to UW in “Back to School”) hasn’t hurt either and the station recently won “favorite local radio station” readers poll in Isthmus, the alternative weekly in Madison.  Please visit their site which includes a ton of great info, pictures and even historic artifacts like the VW below.

Here is music director Sybil Augustine’s latest missive:

Hello peeps!
OK, guess I could have saved that one for Easter, heheh. Anyway….we’re getting down with the new music, and also artists that are coming to town.
That’s why Vic and Elf Power dominate, as they play here this coming Friday. Dr. John is here in a couple of weeks too.
Also big on my agenda this week: wrapping up stuff for our Pledge Drive, which begins Sunday Feb 8 and is schedule to run through Feb 21,
however, we are already planning for the likelihood that we’ll have to extend it a few days to make our goal…

WORT listener c. 1976 - how they got to 2009!

So, anything you have in terms of CDs, swag, signed items, etc. that we could use as pledge premiums would be most welcome. Even if it’s only 1 extra
copy it helps, and older CDs are useful too. If you’ve seen an album you’re working with consistently on our charts within the last 6 months, would you please consider asking for a few extra copies to help us out? We would be most grateful….we’ve done pretty well in the past, but are currently in a budget crunch
and this fundraiser is crucial. Of course, for those of you also in a crunch it’s certainly understood if you can’t help us out. Just keep on looking over that
rainbow….we don’t have much of anywhere to go but upwards, from here!

Thanks so much.

Sybil
