Congratulations to President Obama on his first presidential trip to Africa. He is making people love America again (not that that’s important, I’m just anti-hate). “Barack Obama” by Blakk Rasta is a good song, but the reason I’m posting it is to highlight what is becoming a constant presence of reggae in Obama’s administration. Blakk Rasta’s song, recorded during the campaign, says it nicely:

“It is time now to play African reggae
music in the White House with a heavy bass….
It is time now for the rastaman to walk
into the White House and shake
his dreadlocks without a pass…”

Blakk Rasta sat for an in-depth interview with the Daily Graphic newspaper of Ghana. It turns out that this shrewd young man is a dj/”presenter” on Hitz FM, like countless other artists who started in radio. It worked for Ludacris, B.B. King and Willie Nelson, and now Blakk Rasta is using radio to get his message out (along w/the net of course — hello Ghana!).

Did the Skatalites ever record “Hail to the Chief”?
