Next year’s music is seeping through, and here’s a nibble from PJ Harvey’s next album Let England Shake, entitled “The Last Living Rose.” It’s “a short film” by Seamus Murphy, who has created films to accompany the albums remaining 11 songs as well.
After a few semi-experimental albums, it sounds like she is coming back to something more conventional/palatable. Interestingly, this album is being released in the US by Vagrant Records (on February 15), ending a 20-year association with Island Records. Apparently “White Chalk” and “A Woman a Man Walked By” stymied the folks who work there these days, and hopefully a more stylistically compatible company will treat her music with the respect it deserves.
