Todd Snider‘s latest recording “America’s Favorite Pastime” documents a great moment in sports history, the day Dock Ellis pitched a no-hitter while under the influence of LSD.

Todd Snider performed his song “America’s Favorite Pastime” on Don WasMy Damn Channel:

Snider says the song is a tribute to anyone called on to do something that they were unprepared for, but I think a better interpretation (of course I know better than the writer!) is that there have been many instances where great things were achieved by people under the influence, and that WAS their preparation.  Of course, people under the influence cause a lot of destruction, but in this case, whatever Dock Ellis (and maybe even Todd Snider) took must surely be considered “Performance Enhancing Drugs.”
