Lionel Eblast

Lionel Richie is one of the best promoters of any artist I have ever encountered and this week, his new album “Just Go” was released. As a loyal member of the Lionel Richie online fanclub/newsletter, I was happy to hear about some 2.0 events connected to the release of his new album, as shown above.

While I haven’t texted to become part of the Good Morning America audience, I had already seen Lionel on the cover of Jet in the subway, and am already interested. Those are good multiple impressions for an artist about to turn 60! Like Bob Dylan or Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie is one of our most popular artists because of his excellent songs.

And like those two giants, Lionel Richie has saved the world with his music many times.

Three Times Lionel Richie Has Saved the World (or at least attempted to)

1. He took Bob Marley and the Wailers on tour with the Commodores in 1980.
2. Lionel Richie co-wrote “We Are the World”
3. Filling in for Fats Domino at the 2006 Jazz and Heritage Festival, the first JazzFest after Katrina.

I met Lionel Richie a few times while I was working at Island Records. Naturally, I asked him about Bob Marley, and he had a few stories that should remain classified. The bottom line is that Lionel Richie is a good dude and I am happy to give his new album a bit of shine here.

Maybe I will see you at GMA next week too. If you stop by any of the Lionel Richie pages, I’d be curious to hear any comments about the quality of the music.

Here’s a bootleg (with apologies to Mr. Morris) from YouTube:
