“If you have received an e-mail from my place of business concerning a political action and it is allegedly from me, rest assured I did not write the e-mail; I never read the e-mail; and I certainly never endorsed the e-mail before it was sent to over 100,000 listeners,” Brehmer wrote on his page. “It’s just something they do. Send out e-mails and sign my name to them without my knowledge. I will always be on the side of the musicians.”

WXRT, Chicago’s long-time morning man, Lin Brehmer, has become entangled in a corporate controversy thanks to his employers CBS Radio. Apparently, in an effort to drum up opposition to a new bill in Congress that will raise the rate radio stations have to pay for royalties on the music they play. This is a major bone of contention between some very powerful lobbying groups; it’s one of the few ways for the struggling music business to increase revenue, and radio has always counted on the royalty fees being low enough to make money while using content owned by someone else.

CBS sent an email out that had Brehmer endorsing their opposition to the bill, and Brehmer took the bold move of denying it on his Facebook page. The Chicago Tribune’s Phil Rosenthal went into further detail.

Earbender salutes Lin Brehmer for publicly standing up to a powerful corporation for what he believes in. Here’s a bit of the man from a promo spot:

What do you expect, he’s a Yankee fan!
