Apollo Moon Landing on Screen in Central Park, July 20 1969

Apollo 11 Moon Landing in Central Park
10,000, including yours truly, gathered in New York’s Central Park to watch the Eagle land.

Although I was only four years old, I can distinctly remember where I was when “men landed on the Moon.” I was sitting in a cardboard box covered by an umbrella, and saw the Eagle touchdown on the big screen. This photo is the first time I’ve seen these screens and this night in forty years.

Are we ahead or behind of what could be considered “Space-age” technology? Our cellphones have more computing power than the Saturn 5, but are our goals with technology as great as then? Could the country launch an “Apollo” or “Manhattan Project”? Or even a new highway system today?
