They didn’t know how touching/crass it would be to hear the late Michael Jackson singing “I’ll Be There” as a little boy when this ad was first aired on May 20! State Farm’s YouTube page simply states:

“Our condolences to the Michael Jackson family and fans.

Since this ad first aired May 20, the songs lyrics have helped make a strong emotional connection with people. This Jackson Five song is just one example of Michael Jacksons impact and legacy as a pop culture icon.

This commercial is about the power of human connection. It’s about people being there for people. This highly emotional spot plays out what State Farm does on a daily basis.”

I couldn’t agree more, after all, who’s smoother than a insurance salesman? As Yogi says, “you need it because you don’t have it.”
