As if we didn’t already think so, Sports Illustrated today named our Captain, Derek Jeter their 2009 Sportsman of the Year. Jeter is the sportsman of EVERY year, if not the decade. Yet sometimes even us New Yorkers sometimes take him for granted.

Sports Illustrated’s “Sportsman of the Year” now goes on the pile of trophies he picked up in 2009, The Silver Slugger, The Gold Glove, The Roberto Clemente Award and of course the World Championship! I’d heard that no team had ever won a championship with a 35 year old shortstop at the beginning of the season, but I also knew they weren’t considering Derek Jeter.

Seeing the Captain outside the stadium will be very exciting for us fans. Very good idea to take some pictures of him where we all hang out as opposed to in Tampa. Congratulations to Derek Jeter and thanks for another great year. I hope it continues for a very long time.

The Earbender Sports Personality of the Year will be named soon, and Jeter has a chance to win that as well.
