Earbender.com returns with an old stand-by, the Playlist of the Week. DJ Ichabod hosts WRVU, Nashville’s Metal program for many years and is one of the more diligent folks about sending his list. After all, the last band I promoted to college radio metal djs was probably the Insane Clown Posse! Before we proceed to his information, I would like to note that our friend the Right Reverend Keith Coes started out in radio at this same station.

Ichabod’s spontaneous inclusion of his thoughts on Iron Man 2 shows that college/metal radio can be vital in shaping opinion on mainstream content. As a fan who happens to have a radio show, he has the ability to connect in a deeper way than most other media. I happen to agree with his opinion on the movie too — as an old comic book fan, it’s more than enough just to see the old stories come to life realistically. And I actually think Iron Man might be better as a movie than it was as a comic book.

See what’s cooking on the Nashville metal front:

“Welcome to the weekly WRVU loud-rock charts email — a means of letting
you know what we’re doing with the music that we get in for metal, punk,
deathrock, hardcore, aggro-industrial, and loud rock music in general…

Greetings,

Starting this week with a short: Unsolicited Movie Review!

This week: “Iron Man 2”

While IM2 wasn’t Oscar-worthy or anything, I’m glad to live in the age of cinema that would finally be able to do justice to comic book movies. They are their very own brand of fantasy, after all, and it’s taken us until now to be able to translate that style effectively. I got what I paid for — panel after panel of comic book action, as unrealistic as it may be in real-world terms, but precisely how things would go in the dreams of a comic book kid. I think that sums my review, really.

Otherwise, here are the charts:

Adds:

1 DANZIG Deth Red Sabaoth [Sampler] The End
2 MASTERPLAN Time To Be King
3 NECRONOMICON The Return Of The Witch Napalm
