Naturally, the music for the Super Bowl is of great interest, and this year’s artist, Bruce Springsteen, like most of the others, is one of my favorites. When Prince performed at the Super Bowl, he re-established himself as one of the great performers in the history of rock, and I expect Springsteen will do the same on Sunday night.  Based on a few interviews he has given, including Rolling Stone, an NFL press conference yesterday and on home station Sirius, he is appreciating the size of the audience and the effect it can have, so expect greatness.

12 minutes should be plenty of time to erase all the images of solo Springsteen on acoustic pumping Obama and Kerry in most of America’s eyes. While I’m sure he will say something heavy, maybe even play a ballad like My Hometown or I’m on Fire, but expect to see the exuberant vibe mostly. It won’t be bad. He may not equal the silhouette of Prince playing “Purple Rain” in the rain, but it should be pretty good.

Speaking of humor, the lack of it is probably why his 90s were such a struggle. It’s possible humor in music was not in style in the 90s/grunge era, but his reunion with the band and willingness to be self-deprecating as he had been in the 70s made a big difference to me. Therefore, I predict that on Sunday we will see a pretty great tv show involving a boss from New Jersey and his loyal consigliere Miami Steve Van Zandt go nuts in Tampa. It will be at about 9 but on a different chanel.

He discusses why he is so happy with the new album and how an opportunity like the Super Bowl is hard to pass up for a artist of his “stature.” AP summarized the press conference nicely here.

In pumping Conan, I hope he appears on his first Tonight Show to pay him back for being nice to Max!

All he has to do now is show his nipple!
